Am I missing something, or is my opponent cheating?

Post subject:  Am I missing something, or is my opponent cheating?

Hi:

I'm actually rather new to MA, and recently started online play under the name "Zorro".

I think I understand the game quite well, but on my second online game, I can't understand how my opponent had enough income to purchase the units he did.

I know it is considered inappropriate to post a game before it is finished, but I've gone over the replay, and I want to get a third-party opinion before I do anything rash that would hurt the honor of my opponent.

So I'm asking for your indulgence - could some of you more experienced MA players download this replay and examine it? Did my opponent cheat to suddenly have enough money to purchase 2 bots, a transport, and a LAV on turn 9 from a country that, by my count, had only 2 to spend?

I really hope I'm wrong and someone can explain to me why I'm mistaken.

Thanks in advance.

I've taken a hard look at your replay, and I agree, something is fishy. Here's what I think the replay shows:

Turn # Purchase
1 4 tanks (Disclosure)
2 Land Transport
3 Nothing - $2 carried to next turn
4 Rocket Launcher
5 Tank
6 Tank
7 Tank
8 Nothing - $2 carried to next turn
9 2 Robots and 1 Land Transport and 1 LAV ($11 total)

So it does appear to me that the FNU player should have at most, $4 to spend. How the money shows up makes no sense, unless somehow disclosure was retriggered to generate the extra $9. I'd be talking ti Inna or someone in development how this might have happened.

Thanks for checking it out. I did as you suggested, and forwarded this note to Inna.

I really do hope that it turns out to be something silly like a bug. Someone cheating on a fairly anonymous online game with no stakes on a map described by some posters on this forum as a "crap shoot" would just be sad.

I agree with Arkon's assessment - something very fishy happened here. Has there been any response? This is quite disturbing. This "cheat / bug" was relatively obvious to catch, but if someone can add just $2 to a couple countries it would be much more difficult to notice and could turn the tide of a close battle. I'd like to hear from the developers on this.

FYI - I sent a private message to Inna, ask for him too examine the issue. He sent back the following message:
"

Actually some cheating can be possible only in playing against AI.
But I'll discuss this issue with our programmers

I received a message from Inna today, and she reported the following:

"

Iam sorry for my late reply.

First of all, I want to say that Iam a female.

Secondly, our developers had a look at the game and here is their conclusion: either it was an error, a bug in the programme, that was very useful for your opponent or he cheated purposely.

I finished the game 79717 in a draw as requsted.

First, let me apologize for getting your gender incorrect.

Second, thanks for eventually looking into the game.
