i still play chess and thats been around for, oh, at least 10 yrs i'd say...

will your server still be running then? will you still be around then...

Well, no software company can guarantee you that it will be in business for another 10 years, you know...
For example, Electronic Arts clearly staes on its "Earth and Beyond" box (which is meant to be a purely online game), that it:

Currenly Wargaming.net has NO reasons for shutting the online service down. Our company is known for running its DBA Online servers for more than 3 years already.

Hi

I can see the developer’s point that game only has two sides, that it only takes 30 turns to complete a game and so on. Also, I understand that requiring players to play on their online server for effective MP gives more people incentive to buy the game. The online gaming community was among others Counter Strikes major success.

I think, however, that not having a LAN option is a mistake. Being able to review your situation in game wile the other player is considering his or her turn is convenient and gives the game a good "feel". The pace of a game will also be increased significantly if players are sitting in wait of the next turn, and a popup says "next turn" all over the screen when your opponent is done. Also, hotseat is not an option with the secret alliance system, since you will lose the whole secrecy part. (And don’t tell me that I'm supposed to turn away for one moment, it does not work that way.) Often, when my friends and I arrange LAN parties, no internet connection is available. This would quite effectively stop any MP activity for MA.

I'm coming in late on this one, but I have to agree. The game needs a LAN option, the secret allies features means hotseating is just not an option to fully experience this game. To play with friends you need two people in the same room. Now, you can do this via the net, but not everyone has an always on broadband connection (which is what you'd need for decent, speedy gaming).

i dont understand those whineys who keep asking for LAN. you dont need the LAN to play MA - if you both are in one place you can as well play hotseat.Just leave the room at moment when enemy deploys and vice-versa,

I want LAN play (or at least Direct Connect/PBEM) in case the Massive Assault servers go tits up... Some of you may not be playing the game in 5 years, so what are those of use who are still playing the game supposed to do? Create an account for a defunct/non-supported-by-the-developer game that doesn't have a server to create an account on? I think it's a VERY valid complaint. Great game otherwise...

Exactly, so unless there's lan (or PBEM) play or you're still in business in ten year's time, it'll be impossible to play Massive Assault in any other multiplayer mode than hotseat. Which would be very sad, considering how great the game is.

What the game really needs is PBEM-support, but I have a feeling that this don't fit with the developers plans for the future... :-/

Hot seat is UNACCEPTABLE because of the Secret Allies deal. That is a pivotal part of the game, and the surprise is ruined in Hotseat. The only other option is LAN.

Other LAN games I see enforce CDKEYS - so that should not be an issue

Perhaps MA should be designed with the ability to host a three- or four-way war.
It would make the game more popular if different modes were added.

My friend and I tried this game once. we both agreed that the game was good, but the non-secret allies took away some of the fun. This game needs LAN support. (.)

I would have bought two copies of this game from eb today. (I came to the site to see if the LAN issue had been fixed yet).

It's ok because I ended up uncovering Dominions 2 and I am looking forward to giving that try.

Anyway. It's a crime this game has no LAN ability.
(That e-mail stuff is no-good)

I'll tell you developers why you should implement lan in MA.
1) We said so.
2) It will make the game more appealing to buyers.
3) Me and everyone else will be alot happier if you do.

We consumers put in our money vote by buying this product. Suppose noone would buy MA...then that means nobody would like it. This is like a presidential election. The best president with the most appeal wins. Same here...
Add lan play and more people will more likely put their money votes on it.

We will be happier too.
