Well, I was at a dentist appt. and glanced at this months issue of PC Gamer and saw that it gave MA a 79%. Which is technically "good," but, ya know... blah.

The only cons it even listed were that the AI was hard, the storyline was weak and uninspired, and the voice acting was "embarassing to listen to." And that apparently deserved to take 21% off, regardless of how much fun he thought the actual game was...

And most of the review was spent with him talking about how much he loved mechs, and that mechs are cool, and that he thought Massive Assault was "Battletech inspired." :o Ooookay...

Yup. Some quality journalism there. (sarcasm)

I totaly agree...
It makes no sense to lower the total verdict by 21% because 3 minor complains.
Maybe he was offended, the AI was to much for him..

The AI is good but it's not too hard.

I can barely win aghainst easy. And it is hit-or-miss against a normal. Hard hands me my ass in about four turns... But that beats a weakling AI, I lvoe challenges!

Since non-cheating AIs are never better than the best humans, and out of the two only the human can learn, the AI can never be too good :)

Tell that to Deep Blue ;)

I guess that still holds true here too... Deep Blue does learn.

It would be an awesome research project to try to make unbeatable MA AI... Tone down the game to just bits, come up with a perfect heuristic function, and let a learning AI play it millions of times against itself and we might have some pretty stiff competition.

PC Gamer does that in a lot of reviews for strategy games. They look more for flash than for substance. They don't seem to care how FUN the game is, only how good it LOOKS.

Chess AI is a terrible example of AI. Professional players take on computers by giving them situations not in any book, and the ability of the AI collapses... otherwise no player could ever beat a chess computer, they number crunch too much for a human.

However, chess AIs are massive number cruchers, their smarts... well...

That's all AI is anyways :). MA would require a great deal more of it though, its true.
