There must be a reason for "not surrendering" because of points.
This is not a decent way for the scoring to be handled. It would be more honorable to have surrender score higher than just "walking away from the fight" because it is "below my dignity" or whatever to give up....I have a big, squeaky ego myself, but how about it?.... :-?

It'll be easier on your ego to just surrender when you know you are beaten then go through the humiliation of being stomped into the ground until you can't move anymore.

Its always a tough pill to swallow, but being a gracious loser only increases the respect others have for you.

Does the score of a surrendered game difference from euh, just plain won game?

Same score either way. Same with timeouts too, which I've been a little leary of but don't really have an alternative to suggest.

personally i take ;longer over games where i'm losing as i need more time to think about what todo. If i can see a games lost then i see if there are any areas where i ahve a chance of advancing, if so i concentrate on this area and ignore everything else. Hopefully I'll learn something from thea reas where I'm doing ok. If I'm losing everywhere and can't see a way to pull back then i just surrender. (Then beat them at the rematch heh)

I have been under the impression that a game that is left to be "timed out" gives fewer points to the winner....Several times, experienced players haven't returned to the game after the first turn, apparently because they expect to lose, and points are different then....Hopefully a person who really knows the answer will respond...I've had this discussion with, I think Tiger, long time ago... 8)

the points gained from a game is based on the 2 players rank, not on how the game is won.

Okay...when these aforementioned players didn't come back to finish their turns during Tournament, I received only 9 points for winning, and it would normally have ben at least 36.....yes....as they were generals at least.... 8)

weird think it's 9 points for losing to a general. U sure they hadn't taken their turns but it was stuck at ur end (without u realising) so they timed u out?

Nossir...They didnt come back and I timed them out...3-day limits tourney play....and I got 9 points each....surrender is not possible until 2nd turn I think....?....but they deliberately abandoned play... 8)

Tiger Said that the old scoring was no longer in effect. But I guarantee you, that the old way was as described... I will find out soon as two (at least) playas have quit playing after turn one or two. I am giving the usual opportunity to play before timing them out......I will bet that I only get 9 points per game.... :P

I think there should be some penalty for timing out, as it is annoying for the other player.

Another PBEM-style game, "Laser Squad: Nemesis", penalizes the timer-out by making them lose a few more points than they would upon losing or surrendering, while the winner gets his normal win-score. Everyone have been happy with that solution.

Are you saying that a player who just ignores their game, instead of playing it out or Surrendering, should be penalized?
The following comment does not reflect on that notion, but:
I would rather that a losing player Surrender, as it is just more respectful than acting like it doesn't exist and forcing the "winner" to pick out the "time-outs" to get the victory.

I like this idea. It can be furthered to encourage people to surrender rather than drag out a game that they've already lost, which is also annoying. This would help to keep clan wars/tournaments moving.
