Post subject:  No games won or lost yet score changes
I had noticed that my profile display indicated 42 more points needed for next rank. Now today, with no games won or lost, it says 53 points needed till next rank. What am I missing?

There is no fixed score for each rank. Everything is relative. The amount of points needed for gaining the next rank is estimated as follows. First, next rank is calculated. Then, all players with the rank are sorted ascending, i.e. if you're a lieutenant, all captains are taken. Captain with the minimal score of all captains is your target, the difference between your score and this score is the difference you must tend to, to gain next rank.

Ranks are assigned according to the following rules.

All players are sorted by score descending.

amount of Marshalls are not more than 1% of all players.
... Generals ... 4% ...
... Colonels ... 11% ...
... Majors ... 21% ...
... Captains ... 36% ...

So rank is a moving target. Good reason not to get hung up on it I guess other than as an indicator of ability. One thing that does concern me is not knowing how many points I stand to lose if I am beaten by someone of lesser rank as opposed to same or higher than mine (Morn brought this up first). Can you explain the mechanics of this aspect?


edit: Not kidding moving target. Just signed on and now I only need 18 points to next rank. Not sure if I like this method or not.

The person in any rank with the lowest score in his rank will be the "target" for those that have the rank below. Or something like that :)



Edit: It might do me good to read a bit better before I post.. :)

Got passed that, now wondering how one could know how many points they stand to forfeit if they should lose a game against a particular player.
