Now that our thoughts are starting to turn to month 2 of the tournement and the challenge of getting promoted (he says hopefully!), do we think that the one going up and one going down will give rise to enough movement?

Once we're all playing at the same level it's going to be very hard to change divisions. You more or less need to win all your games to be sure of a promotion, and since all the map as small(ish) one bad position could put an end to your hopes.

Might be better if the top and bottom two (or possibly even 3) changed divisions to give people more of a chance to work their way up.

Any thoughts anyone?

Yes.
The big question is, WHEN WILL THE NEXT ROUND BEGIN?
Many players are afraid to play games because we have not been told.
Someone needs to make a decision on the START DATE.
It is not right to leave this open to speculation.
Tiger: What is the date for the Second Round? :o

Probably, February, 18 or 19.

Yes, you are totally right. It was in the old rules of previous tournament in the first MAN.
I don’t know when this phrase has been lost, but now it was restored.
You can see old-new rule on the site:

"9. At the end of each round the 2 best players from division advance to the upper one, and the two players with lowers scores in division go to the lower one (winners in each division will be get awards as set out below)."

I think that it will be a lot closer than that.

Each division will be a fight to the death with equally skilled players all trying to move up (or not move down).

If anyone wins all their games - well done - but I think that will be a hard task with how small these maps are. With all the talent being very equal in each pool - it will be like playing poker - some skill - mostly luck of the draw - if you get good hand (ie good SA's) then you should win against an equal opponent.

Personally - I think that the maps should get bigger every round - make then bigger and give us more time I say..... but I may be a lone voice out there. (For Pitor not to be in the top pool just makes me think that luck will play a bigger part in this than most think.)

Not that it matters much - the players in second division still have a great chance - if they win the first round of second division - then he will collect 17 points -

the winner of division 1 gets 18 points and second only gets 16 points... SO.... the winner of second division will be second in the whole competition and only 1 point behind the overall leader.

Second place in second division will also be OK - getting 16 points - making them tied for 3rd.

BUT - if you get 3rd in second division - you are screwed :)

Confused yet?

EVEN if you are in 4th division - if you win every round and keep getting promoted - you are still in with a chance.

Confused no, but disappointed how the score is calculated. This bonus is much too high. It's ridiculous that the winner of the second division will be only 1 point behind the winner of the first division.

Bonus should get player who play in previous round in lower division AND win or take the second place in the first round in the current division.
For example, in the first round (which one will be started next week) no one should get bonus, because of it’s first round (preliminary round don’t counted for it).
If anyone will play in the first round in the Division 3 and take 1st or 2nd place, then he can get bonus points if he/she will win (take 1st or 2nd place) in the Division 2 in the second round.

what about the all star 2nd division with special guest apperance of the world No.1 - Pitor ? Has that been finalised? Are you going to start the finalised divisions early - or all at once?

All tournament's games will be started together. There is question about 2nd place in one group, so I didn't post results yet.

I've finished and removed from tournament last battles, which ones had more than 19 days without turn.

I have problems with MAN2.
When I start MAN2 a message appears saying "The game appears to be broken. Please restore it".
I see the animation map all in blue (not terrain, also watr).
Than after selecting my profile I can see the games againts Odon and Forgotten. I can start the Forgotten's game, but after a few of his movements a message apperas saying that the game is broken.
If I try to start the Odon's game MAN2 crash directly.

Now MAN2 crahs directly sometimes. Another times it show the broken message (before selecting the profile). Another times it start normally but crash when I try to play a game.
Also I see that I receive a message form yllinium saying that he challenge me but I can't see the challenge.

I have reinstalled MAN2 but the problem continue.
I also have sent a message to support.... I don't know what more I can do.
The Repair option doesn't do anything.
For the moment I can't play my games!!

First (Round 0) was ok, now looking for my way up
Just one thing, would it be possible to order the standings from top to bottom. Like first player on top last one at the bottom.

if you click on "players" and then "group view" you will see all 16 groups starting with division #1. You can assume that players 1 thru 9 are in division 1 and 10 thru 18 division 2 and so it goes down the line. It will not tell you the players position in each group but it will give you a general idea of where everyone is at the start of each round. Of course as players move up and down each round it will become a little more complicated

A quick question - What happens to a player who does not make any (or many) turns and then times out all games in the tournament .

Obviously they will lose the round and be demoted - is that it - what if they do this week after week - they will just slowly float to the bottom....

Would it be better to just to ask them if they want out of the competition all together.... I say give them one more round to prove they can actually finish some games - else - kick them out. (I will probably have to pull out myself at some stage as other things in life become more important).

With all the luck involved in the small maps - 2 or 3 players not playing makes it more :luck" based (the more games you have in one pool the more luck is balanced out).

I understand that things come up in life - and that it may not be possible to play as much as other people - and if its shot term - I have absolutley no problem. But it would be silly for a player to just float to the bottom over 12 months clogging up the system.

ALSO

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE use something bigger than V6 in the next round.

I know I am just being selfish but I want something with an $18 country in it.... (unlike Eden and Antarticus where my lowly $12 was my biggest asset).

How about Midgard .. or Noble Rust :)
Then we can have proper Naval Battles

The rules state.....

Quote:
When it’s possible, the moderators of the tournament have a right to substitute any planet from the list.

So I know you have the power....

Come on Tiger... be daring and make it a Medium sized map.... Please !!!

(you can't say I didn't ask nicely )

;)

I would vote for Midgard--noble rust may be a little too spread out for the time frame of the chess clock game. I also think Midgard would be a much better choice than V6 or any of the other small maps.
