Makes sense to me.....

If you are going to lose - the more turns you make - the more points you get.. (so losing in 20 turns is much better than losing in 10).

If you are going to win - the less turns you make the better. Winning in 2 turns is EXCELLENT - winning in 50 turns - not so great.

Turns aggregate = LOST turns - WON turns
The MOST points wins.

NOTE - This figure ONLY works when compared to people of EQUAL wins.

Because a person who wins ALL games actually gets a large negative score and a person who loses ALL games gets a large positive score.

You can NOT compare peoples turns agregate unless they are on EQUAL wins and losses. (Thats the only time time it really matters - is when you are EQUAL with someone).

The problem with this scoring system is that it forces players to play until their opponent actually wins the game. This creates long and boring games that, under normal circumstances, would usually be surrendered by one player long before they are actually defeated.

I agree - but can't think of a better plan to sort out a 3 way draw.....

Also - when does the next round start?

The idea that a game won more quickly reflects skill is inaccurate.
Games which are started with a difficult allotment might only be won in a long game, which in some cases reflects more skill.

I agree with Rextrent. Besides the type of layout, the style of play comes into the equation. Some play a very aggressive type of game and these players Is someone beating a player usually are the ones that can push a quick end to a conflict, others, such as myself, play a much more reserved or defensive game and these battles usually take longer to finish. Is it really a better game is a player wins in 15 moves as opposed to someone else winning in 20? I say no.

this sentance really got screwed up-- Some play a very aggressive type of game and these players Is someone beating a player usually are the ones that can push a quick end to a conflict,
Should read--"Some play a very aggressive game and these players are the ones that can push a quick end to a conflict"

Ok, next question on the scoring system.

If you finish in the top 2 of the first division 2 month in a row do you get a bonus, or is that only if you get promoted the previous month?

Now thats just greedy :)

I am pretty sure you only get 8 'bonus' points if you advanced a group last round - if you are already in 1st division - then you have not advanced. The only way to get the bonus points is to lose - fall back to 2nd division - then win 2nd division - then come 1st or 2nd in 1st division the following round.

Clear as Mud.

The main aim of the bonus point system was to even out the fact that the original round 0 of the tournament put us in divisions. Given that system was not perfect, it allowed for a good player to have a bad round (and end up in a lower division) - and still have a chance for the overall tournament.

Now that the divisions are settling down - I dont expect many bonus points - especially in the top few divisions.

But watch out for Pitor - he is 'advancing' to 1st division and will be hungry for the bonus points. - as will I if I ever manage to get into 1st division

Luck and skill may have deserted me and I am'languishing' in 2nd division - but am eager to finally earn my stripes -with the arrival of fresh blood from cream of the crop of 3rd division and the poor souls demoted from 1st division.

BRING ON CRATEUS - at least it has an $18 (not that I expect many people will be foolish enough to go for it until they are winning already) at least it is there in spirit.

This map is a bit larger than the last few and will take a few more turns to win me thinks

TIGER - WHEN DOES THE NEXT ROUND START PLEASE -need to catch up on my sleep before the mayhem begins :)

OK OK - I am bored - no one is playing my games and I dare not start any more in fear of being swampped in the next round - forgive the long post.'

This is the truly IMPORTANT question which was raised:
When is the next round going to begin?
It is much fairer for there to be an announcement to ALL players well ahead of this date so that we might all be ready.

Tiger: A couple of request about the tournament area on the web site:

Can you make the default view for Players come up in the Group view - I never use the other view.... and it take time to load up each view. seems a waste of time.

AND

Is there a way to show overall tournament standing? ie total global score?

Thanks

The information available now regarding the tournament is incomplete and confusing.
Maybe I expect too much, but the list which comes up with this link is not usable.
There really should be a list which is easy to use and inform.
I can live without it, but for those who want this data, there could be a list which is viewable without numerous multiple screens and clicks.
To whomever does all this, THANKS! :D

About being greedy, if you are first twice in a row, winning all games. Do you get bonus points?

There are some bugs with global score on the site. We know about it and I hope it will be fixed soon.

YES - you get 8 bonus points for coming 1st or 2nd in the round after you were promoted from a lower division...

So in your case - you get 8 bonus points - AND - if you get 1st or 2nd the next round - you get ANOTHER 8 bonus points - good Luck - I think it gets a bit harder each time you advance (unless you totally bombed out in the round 0 and got a division below your actual strength)
