It seems that not everyone enjoyed the new map Butterfly (like for example some "Guest" ). But I think that there's an easy solution for this - maybe devs should create separate topic, where players could submit their opinions and raise their objections about new maps. In my opinion it might be very helpful especially for the devs, who could concentrate on players expectations ... What do you think about it ???

And a few words to "Guest":
criticism can be good but only if it's constructive ...

I agree complitelly. I think that we have a lot of ideas wich can be very usefull for the dev's.
Dev's you could just give some topics and a great "brain storming" will happen.
By and enjoy the summer time.

How about the dev's release a map editor and let the players design them and submit them. Then the devs can select one each month for release to MAN?

Or even better yet, make it a contest...whoever gets his/her map selected gets a free month of subscription (or something).

making of custom map editor is impossible since current MA technology does not use tilesets.
this was explaned by devs like dozen times in different places on forum.

Ah, Mrakobes, we can always count on you to point things out like we all have nothing better to do than read every single thread. I guess since I wasn't here at the start I should be sure to do an extensive search before I post anything.

I fail to see why we need tilesets to make a map. If the devs can make maps, then they could release a form of an editor so that we could do the same thing.

Sure they do...the logic maps are basically just hexagonal tiles. The devs would still have to make the actual graphics, but they wouldn't be spending the time and effort on the map size, shape, layout, etc.

And how about terrain 3D-model? :)

Some time ago I tried to modify map-files from MA, and get success. There is a way to create editor by self, but there is no free time for that. +3D terrain is a problem atm.

Here is map editor. It's provided with no help file, but seems to be simple enough.

We want medium and small sized maps. Suitable for multi and single playing. Here is the list of restrictions:

Visual restrictions
1) Each city must have 6 passable ground hexes around it's center
2) There must be no completely isolated countries.
3) There must be no more than 1 pair of countries on a map that share a common border of length 1.
4) If the border between 2 countries is divided then each piece must be at least 2 hexes long
5) More than 80% of non-sea terrain should be passable.
6) MAp sizes:

24,42
32,56
40,70
48,84

7) Map must have sea terrain in all border hexes (no-crateus like maps)
8) It should have "sane" layout. This means that all the maps shold follow the spirit of previous worldwar maps. Do not superoverexagerrate one idea.

Economical restrictions
1) No more than 30 countries and no less than 10, 13, 16, 19 countries for each map size.
2) Country territory should be connected by passable land
3) Country territory size should be balanced. The least possible territory is 16 hexes for small, 20 hexes for medium, 24 hexes for Large.
4) you may only set country economy type.

You should also provide a detailed description of how you think the map should look like. Describe the look of different areas of map (different types of desert, forest, plains, mountains...), vegetation type, decorative objects on map, terrain look and feel. Maybe you want to add some photos to your submission... Please do not exaggerate with alien-looking terrain and color palette.

You may also provide strategic and tactical analysis of a map, but please concentrate on visual description. (Your .lm file will speak for itself)

You should send your submission to vlad@intervelopers.com. Total size of mail should not be larger than 1MB. It should include:
1) .lm file - logic map
2) Description of visual view
3) Possible .jpegs of sample images.

Every submitted logic map, description of visual view becomes the property of Wargamming.Net.

Submitted maps will be sorted and several "good" ones will be selected. Then there will be some sort of voting on the forum or other process to determine the best map (not decided yet). We do not guarantee that any map we’ll be released.

Feel free to discuss the maps before sending them to us. You may post screenshots (.gif) and .lm files on the forum as well. Time for creating is not limited now (we need several good maps to choose from).

Let's discuss maps in Custom Scenarious section:

Not that I'm planning to do so, but for future reference...is it alright to make a MA version of a StarCraft or Warcraft map, or would it be inappropriate?

Starcraft map?
As long as it is not official one and conforms to the rules above.

lost temple (starcraft) would be good as a man map espically with all those ridges.
