 Post subject: Constant Gameplay
PostPosted: Sun Feb 13, 2005 8:23 pm
I know that MAN is supposed to feature a PBEM style of multiplayer gameplay, but sometimes me and a friend just want to play a game as a constant flow, as in the single player world wars. Obviously on the larger maps this would grow tedious, but on small maps it is quite possible for a game to last no more than 40 mins depending on the situation.

What I want to know is if there is any way for MA or MAN to play a game like this or if it is a lost cause to even think of such a feature.

Thanks for any help.

The closest you will get is hot seat play with MA. You take a turn, then you let him sit down and he takes his turn, and so on, right there on the same machine.

The other thing that is more LAN style (for MAN where you can't watch your opponent) is to play two games: That way the time delay between turns is minimal. Of course this requires two computers connected to the internet, so its not quite the same... but whats to stop you from playing two hotseat games the same way? You just trade seats when turns are completed.

And the third way is to wait for MA:Domination that features "constant" LAN play you've described (you see the moves of your oppenent while waiting for his turn)

Seems I forgot to mention that my friend and I are seperated by the Atlantic Ocean, so playing hotseat isn't really an option. XD

The whole reason I was asking was if it was possible for a constant game to be net-based. Just like I wouldn't play chess by moving my piece then walking off to do other things during the day, then return later to move again, I would have liked a mode where constant play was possible, perhaps over a direct peer-to-peer TCP/IP connection so as to not strain the MAN servers.

But I guess it isn't possible, oh well.

I guess the only way to do that would be to play alot of different games at once, I once had 50 active games going with about 8 new turns every 5 minutes..
