I'm getting this map ready for submission. I wanted to see if anyone had any comments first.

The idea is that we don't really have too many medium maps with an emphasis on naval combat. The only two that really fit are Noble Rust and Anubis. All the other water maps are much larger, and thus take forever to complete.

The other idea going into this map is I like how Crateus battles work out. You have conflicts going in a circle around a central point. The countries
are close together, so you end up having really cool battles.

This one of course can't be compared to Crateus, as the main thing that makes Crateus battles so heavy is that you can't do naval landings behind their forces. But you do have the same idea where ground battles occur in a circular fashion around a central point, in this case a large lake.

This map has 4 highs, 4 meds, and 11 smalls. The best SA layout would prolly be 1 high, 1 med, and 4 smalls each. All highs and meds have access to the central lake, so naval battles will be fierce. The smalls are generally on the outside of the ring, and are mostly pretty defendable, so they will serve to distract the enemy from the outside, while your main forces arrive by sea.

Note there is one break in the ring. This is counteracted by the fact that the smalls on either side of the break are easy to invade by sea, thereby completing the ring.

Nope, I just designed it using the map designer the devs released :) To make it into a MAN map the devs have to choose to go with it

well this map is a beautiful pirat's island !

this could be really interresting.

good job maelstrom !

PS : we got to make a full automaised clan war panel for order and making battle (i'll ask Norat also). 1h for the war moderator is too long

Just an idea : maybe you'd add some impassable hexes in central part to make sea units maneuvers interesting (thinking about range 3 of BB, range 6 of Carr and range 4 of new PL naval unit). This could be anyway between naval labyrinth(to be blocked by cannon fodder) to some "coral reefs" to get extra defence from shorter-range units and amphs+Trn. You may consider "neural" terrain as well (ground hexes without a country number assigned to them - good for deplying some ground troops to assist in naval battle)

BTW: This is the exactly the general idea of the next map I had in mind.

Ok, here's a modified look at this map, considering Skykeeper's assessment. I think his idea of having a labyrinth in the middle is interesting, so I ran with that, and made several points where land forces could be dropped off as staging locations for naval invasions, or to assist in a sea battle.

I've also refined some of the borders, and changed the two entrance points to the central bay to Mediums so there is a better balance between Large, Mediums, and Smalls. Now there are 4 larges, 6 mediums, and 9 smalls. Note that none of the smalls touch the central bay now... should make it interesting, and concentrate naval operations to the middle.

I'll be submitting the finished map and the required details shortly, so if you have comments, make them quick :)

Just a "bump" to ask, whatever happened to this map? It looks like a lot of fun. Is there still any hope of devs supporting new maps for MAN?

Hopefully it will make it into MAN 2. Any word from the devs on this?
