You must be using a definition of "very soon" that is new to the rest of us.

I have hope for new planets :o

Possible planets:
· Emerald (January) - preliminary round
· Antarcticus (February)
· V6 (March)
· New planet (April)
· Crateus (May)
· Treasure Island (June)
· San Fernando (July)
· New planet (August)
· New planet (September)
· Lion’s Eye (October)
· Anubis (November - December) - final round
When it’s possible, the moderators of the tournament have a right to substitute any planet from the list.

A simplified solution would be to place two or three existing maps within a new map, which would result in a Wasserland of several islands.
This would speed up the new maps application. I know it's not the same as new maps but w/minor adjustments, you might hardly know the difference.
Another easier way to bring variation to the game would be to impliment the idea of setpiece or "chessboard" games which I have asked for previously. The same allotment would be replayable and the secret allies would be no longer secret. For many players, they would be able to just play without the extreme difficulty of guessing. These need not be rankable OR could be ranked separately.

How about:
Channel of Doom:
3-hex channel running across map , separating two large islands with mountain ridges on each.
Also various rivers running from mountain ridges into the channel....
the water around the edges of the map would only be about 3-4 hexes wide.
hmmm?
GEEKY!

I fail to see why the devs cant make a tile based map editor, OK, it might not blend in as well as the existing maps, but you could make some pretty good 3d tiles that were designed to blend together. I think the man2 players would prefer a not quite as nice map and a map editor, over the existing system, hell even a 2d terrain system would do the job.

(obviously all the existing maps still stay the same, easy enough to check which map type it is when it loads and change the display slighty)

I would love to see an earth-based map. You've already got the design, just have to implement :)
